Around the World

Our home-school co-op had an "Around the World" Day today. It was so much fun! Before today though, we had to choose a country to study. Our family chose Japan. We read books and did internet searches to learn what we could about this country. Part of the "Around the World" Day was to come dressed in attire from that country. So, of course, we made kimonos!

These were so fun and easy to make! I used the tutorial found HERE. Great instructions, with multiple sizes. I did alter it a bit though. I didn't like how the ties were done in the pattern so I left it off and made everyone an obi (belt). I made a kimono for me also. I had to figure out the measurements to make it bigger, since the pattern I used was for kid sized kimonos. Mine is not pictured because, well, no real reason, I just didn't take a picture of it.  =]  The

boys picked out their fabric. We found these prints at Hobby Lobby. I know Joann's has some also but they were a bit higher in price than I was willing to pay. These were affordable, and fitting to our theme!
Moose (8) chose this combination for his kimono.

N (10) picked out this authentic looking fabric.

The fire kimono was chosen by Zoom (5). He thought it was super cool!
The girl got fabric from my stash. Not super Japanese but cute none-the-less!
The kids had fun wearing these today. They even won a prize for the Most Crafty outfit. (Well, I think that's what they won it for. It was difficult to hear.) Needless to say, they were thrilled about winning.
Excuse the low quality, I forgot my real camera!
 Have a blessed weekend!

Sewing Space Makeover

The last couple of months my sewing space has been a bit unorganized. Okay, okay, extremely unorganized and in disarray! I have been avoiding cleaning it like the plague. Seriously. It was, in my mind, that bad. See for yourselves...
There's stuff crammed everywhere, and anywhere I can think to put it. Most of the time I wasn't sure where stuff was, and spent more time than I'd like to say, just looking for it. Then, finally, one day, I asked for help. Sometimes, that's all it takes for me to just do what needs to be done! So, I sent this photo to a friend of mine. She is pretty organized and I knew she could help me make some sense out of all of this. And, she did! With her suggestions I was able to organize my space so that it was pleasant to look at, and still be completely usable. Here is the after...
Totally different, right?! I'm sure you are wondering where all of that junk that was on the table and shelf went to. I had to purge. It turns out I am a queen of clutter. A lot of the papers and what-not needed to be thrown away. My friend suggested those fabric cubes you can purchase at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. Well, that wasn't exactly in the budget, so I improvised. My husband works for a coffee company, and is constantly throwing out boxes of all sizes. So, he brought home a few instead. I covered them with fabric, and organized my items into each one. You can't even tell they are just cardboard boxes, unless you get up close and inspect them. I really like my spray adhesive! =]

There's only one thing that is missing from my space, something I plan to do but just haven't yet. On the blank space by the window, I will be putting a rod. I will hang my hanging file folder holder there, and some hanging pockets. I will most definitely share when it is complete!

I feel so fresh now. Ready to take on fun new projects! Like making more Bible Cover/Carriers. I really enjoy making these! The clear vinyl pocket is my all time favorite thing. I don't know why I am so tickled with myself but I am. Here's a few I have recently made. They will be making their way to my Etsy shop very soon!

Noah's Hands of Hope

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me about an organization called Noah's Hands of Hope. The family who started this foundation has a five year old son named Noah. He has a mitochondrial disease that will be taking his life very soon. This sweet little boy wanted to help other children, and families, with this same disease and other rare diseases. This is from their mission statement:
Children battling mitochondrial diseases have to fight for their lives every day and their entire families are fighting alongside them. We believe they shouldn't have to fight alone and we want to help them. In doing so, we want to honor the wishes of our son Noah who is nearing the end of his fight and wants to help other children who are sick like he is.
They will be having an auction at the end of this month. You can visit the auction website at Noah's Hands of Hope Auction. You can also view all of the items that are up for bidding, including a Bible Cover/Carrier from me, before the auction starts. If you would, please take a moment to check it out, and possibly share it with others. These families need our help!

Saving One Child at a Time

Friends, do you remember in January, when I was donating a portion of my sales to the Sheffield family to help raise funds for them to adopt Vinnie? Last week, I was contacted by a sweet woman named Christina, over at Saving One Child at a Time blog, to see if I would be interested in donating a few zippered pouches to a fundraiser for Vinnie. Someone else had already donated an item I had made to the fundraiser as well. (Which, I think is totally fabulous!) Sweet little Vinnie has been on my heart ever since I was introduced to him. I was definitely up for donating some items!

Adopting a child tends to be pricey, and this little boy deserves a loving family. I have donated 2 zippered pouches with matching key fobs and a Bible Cover/Carrier. There are other GREAT items that have been donated too! If you have a moment, will you please stop on over at THIS blog post and check it out? If you are unable to participate in this fundraiser financially, please keep this family in prayer! God is good ALL of the time! I know He will provide every last penny needed.

A Time to Listen

Well, the pie fiasco has cooled down over here. Thankfully nothing like it has happened since. Other things have been happening though. Where to start? I'm not really sure.

Maybe I should start by saying that the Lord has been revealing things to me lately. Actually, I think He's been revealing these things to me for some time now, I am just now finally listening to Him. Sometimes it can be hard to hear Him when there is a bunch of static, but that's something entirely different. The Lord has been telling me that the time with my young children is short. They won't be little forever, and they certainly won't always be begging for my attention. Now is the time to give it to them, not trying to later.

I must shift my priorities to where they should be. Now, I know at the beginning of this year I said I wouldn't be blogging as much, and maybe I haven't been. I do know that my Facebook presence has been greater lately. That is something that needs to change for me, and my family. There are lots of other reasons that I will be pulling my Facebook presence but for now, we'll just stick with the basics. I need to be more focused on my growing children, loving on my husband, and being the mother that God wants me to be.

With all of that said, I want to also add that I will not be totally disappearing. My shop is still open, my email still works, and I will certainly still be sewing. Maybe I will still post on here weekly, maybe not. I'm not sure where I'm at right now. I'm playing it all by ear. Listening to what the Lord is telling me to do. Right now, He is telling me to take a break. To be patient. To take it one day at a time.

And so, I am.

I can't leave you all without a picture, or two (or more), of something fun I recently created. To be completely honest, I am quite pleased with myself on this one! Maybe a little bit too pleased. Isn't it super neat though???
Fun colors!

I love the clear vinyl zippered pouch!

The journal just slips right in there.

That pen there, is IN the pocket! I am way too thrilled about this vinyl pocket.

Let's take it to go! Maybe great for Bible study???!!
