Sewing for My Girl

I don't know what got into me last week, I decided to make a dress for my baby girl. I know what you're thinking, "Aren't you supposed to be making her a dress for your family pictures this week?". And my answer is: My super talented friend Krafty Mommas is making her a super cute outfit instead! I am SO excited! She makes the CUTEST stuff for little girls! I look forward to showing you the pics later this week!

Now, back to what I was saying, I decided to make a dress for baby girl. I may be a crafty with the sewing machine for lots of things but I don't consider myself a dress-maker. But, having a little girl means tons of cute, adorable dresses and skirts, right? So, I gave it a go the other day, and, much to my surprise, it didn't turn out too bad! I was attempting to mimic a cute dress she already has but is growing out of.

Here's how it came out...

Then, a dear friend of mine gave me some great suggestions. I took her advice, and this is what I ended up with...

Not too bad for one of my first attempts at dress-making! I mean, I have made some stuff in the past but my skills were, well, not so great. I think they're improving now that I sew more frequently.

I do have more plans for future dresses. Like, giving the bottom a ruffle! Wouldn't that be SO much cuter??!!! Oh the joys of a little girl!

I also just finished up a Zebra print Combo Wallet. I think it turned out pretty great! What do you think?

What's in a Name?

Over the last few days I have been working on some of my notepad holder/wallet organizer combos. I really enjoy making these! But, I am thinking that *maybe* it's time to give it a real name. New & Improved Notepad Holder/Wallet Organizer Combo is a mouthful! So, I am going to be thinking of a New & Improved Name for my creation. Suggestions are always welcome!

Until then, here are some pictures of my most recent New & Improved Notepad Holder/Wallet Organizer Combo's.

And don't forget to check out THIS POST on how to win a custom one!

All closed up and ready to go!
Half way open. You can easily take notes, or look at your list, while keeping your wallet concealed.
Fully opened. Now you have access to your wallet!
I love this print/color combo!
This one may be my favorite so far.
Wait, it is my favorite!
Just in case you are wondering, these measure 8 1/2 inches H by 6 inches W when closed. All the way open it is about 18 inches W. These fit wonderfully into your purse. They don't take up too much space and they keep everything contained! I just LOVE them!!

Autumn

I just love Autumn! The weather gets cooler. The leaves turn pretty colors and start to fall off the trees. Just beautiful!

Of course, here in South Texas, it looks nothing like the picture above but I love it all the same.  =) Fall also means, for my family anyway, it's time to take our yearly pictures! We haven't done a family pic for about 4 years. So, we're due for one. Especially since we now have our beautiful daughter!

With that said, I need some help! In just a few short weeks we are getting our family portraits done. I have been planning (and I use that word loosely here) on making a dress for my daughter and a matching skirt for me. Then, having all the boys shirts coordinating into what we have on. Does that make sense?

Here's what I need help with, I still haven't picked out the fabric!!! What colors should I go with? Something bold? Neutral colors? Blues? Maybe Autumn colors? What type of print, if any? Ah! I just don't know! I need to figure it out quickly though. Our session is November 1st!!!

Please help a momma out and leave me some suggestions below. I would really appreciate it!

Chocolate Mint Notepad Holders!

So, yesterday I was able to make some notepad holders. I was hoping to make some matching wallets, key fobs, and possibly a tote too, but that obviously did not happen. Hopefully very soon!

Until then, here are the notepad holders. Please leave me a comment below and tell me what you think!  =)

The Person Behind 'Tote-ally Blessed'

I have started this blog to share my love of sewing and crafting. It is such a fun way to express myself, and a great way for me to 'escape' for just a little bit during my day. I thought for my first post I should tell you a little bit about myself. Who is the person behind the business? I can certainly answer that! Me, of course!

My name is Ellen.

Firstly, I am a follower of Christ. Without Him, I am nothing.

Secondly, I am a wife to an amazing man, Scott. He truly is a gift from above! He is a strong supporter of me, our children, and my little shop.

Thirdly, I am a stay at home-schooling mom! My hubby and I have 4 blessings from the Lord. They are age 10, all the way down to age 1. Three boisterous boys and one sweet little girl! We chose to home-school our children when our first was just a baby. It is a decision we have not regretted. I love to be able to stay home with my children, and be able to guide them in their educational journey.

Which brings me to my number four, I love to sew! I started sewing several years ago when my crafty friend (Krafty Mommas) started sewing. She was a huge inspiration to me! Although, I guess I really didn't start sewing until many years later. But I feel like my journey began then, when I was pregnant with my first baby. For the most part, I just attempted to sew on my Mom's sewing machine. The one she used to sew my dresses with when I was just a little girl. I made basic things, like place-mats. Then, when #3 was 1 year old, my hubby purchased me my very own sewing machine. It was just your basic machine. Which was perfect for someone who didn't sew much. I started with the thought of making clothes for my boys. I didn't do much of that. Soon, I branched out and started sewing simple totes. Then, in December 2009, I opened 'Tote-ally Blessed' on Etsy, when I was pregnant with #4. My first girl!!! I opened my shop because I truly enjoy sewing. I wanted to be able to share that with whoever wanted to share it with me! I didn't do much that first year. Mainly because I was pregnant with #4, and I had 3 boys to keep up with. What was I thinking opening a shop?? Lol! But, I am glad that I did! I have enjoyed creating usable items for people. I love the fact that people will email me and ask me to create something for them. Something that they will use. Something that was created for them.

Of course, it wasn't just my love of sewing that prompted me to open my little shop. I wanted to be able to help my husband financially. Even if I didn't make very much, something was helpful. He works so hard for us, it was my little way to try and help lessen the burden of being a one income family. The money I make from my shop helps pay for the extras. Like, fun field trips for the kids, extra classes they want to take outside of our little home-school, things like that.

What a blessing this adventure has been for me! When I look back at when I started, at how little I knew of sewing, and what I know today, I count my self truly blessed that others would ask me to create something for them!

Here's to many more custom made items! I hope you come back to my little blog space and see what I have been creating.

God bless you all!
